Mark DeGross

Co-Owner of 2Fast

WMRRA # 35, AMA # 135

Co-Lead Instructor, 2Fast Road Course Instructional School

Mark has been a motorcyclist all of his life.  Mark has raced in Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Events (WMRRA) locally, and also in the OMRRA, AFM, and AMA events as well. A 2002 WMRRA Open GP Twins champion, Mark’s roadracing experience includes West coast AMA events where he competed against the likes of Jamie Hacking, Ben Bostrom, Miguel Duhamel and Tommy Hayden in the AMA 600SS & Formula Extreme series.  A multi-time attendee of Jason Pridmore’s STAR schools, Mark has also attended Freddie Spencer’s school in Las Vegas as well as Mike Sullivan’s school here locally.  In short, Mark’s track day, school, racing experience and results provide him plenty of experience to share with students.

Mark is one of the lead instructors of 2Fast’s road course schools and helps manage a staff of over 30 people who make up Team 2Fast (instructors, marshals, trained corner workers, and operations people). During 2Fast trackdays, Mark will join students riding his own 2003 Honda CBR600RR.

The owner of a small aerial mapping business in Kirkland, WA, few people know that Mark was at one time a key special teams player for the University of Washington Huskies football team during the Don James era, and has a Rose Bowl ring to show for it.  Additionally, Mark is one of the founding members of R.O.G.U.E., a nationally recognized Honda RC51 website resource you can find at www.rc51.org.  Mark is considered by many to be an expert when it comes to Honda RC51’s.

Brian Orton:

Co-Owner of 2Fast

Co-Lead Instructor, 2Fast Road Course Instructional Schools

Brian has been riding motorcycles since he was seven years old, giving him nearly thirty years of motorcycling experience.

Brian is a veteran of many track days, performance schools, and teachings from the likes of Code, Pridmore, and others. While Brian does not have the roadracing background of most of Team 2Fast's hand-picked track day instructors, that doesn't change his ability to teach performance-oriented skills to track day students.  If anything, it allows him to better relate to street riders who - just like himself - want to become better riders on both the track and public roads.

Students will notice something about riding with Brian: he's smooth, relaxed, and confident on a motorcycle… an excellent example for 2Fast’s students.  Additionally, when speeds pick up, his lap times without any racing experience have earned him the respect of many who do race.  Brian is an avid motocross rider on his 2005 Honda CRF450, and is a regular at MXGP motocross park as well as the arenacross track at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds.

When he’s not instructing students with Mark, Brian is an independent, fee-based investment advisor and financial consultant in the Private Asset Management group of Kibble & Prentice (www.kpcom.com). Brian’s clients include the world’s top professional motocross, road racing, and extreme sport athletes who seek Brian’s assistance with investment, insurance, and tax-related matters.

Married to Team 2Fast staff member Tina Orton, Brian is daddy to Christian (6 yrs old) and Elise Orton (4 yrs old). Brian is also the co-founder and Vice President of The NephCure Foundation, a foundation dedicated to kidney disease research funding. He is also the director of The Seattle 100, which benefits The NephCure Foundation.  [In 2004, the Seattle 100 raised over $70,000 for charity, and in 2005 grossed $92,000).

The remaining members of Team 2Fast are a carefully chosen group of instructors, course marshals, corner workers, and staff members who make 2Fast Track Days & Instruction possible. Each and every member has been hand selected for their commitment to excellence, professionalism, and their individual ability to contribute to our track days and schools.

  Instructors:

2Fast instructors have been selected with several factors in mind. On one hand, we of course want instructors who are fast, competent, skilled motorcycle riders. Each instructor’s experience and ability is critical. No less critical, however, is a second factor: their ability to communicate (teach) what they know. A fast, skilled rider is of little use to a paying customer if he/she cannot communicate or teach effectively what he/she knows to students. Thus, 2Fast has selected the Northwest’s best riders who are also good at communicating, explaining, and demonstrating 2Fast teachings.

2Fast is proud to introduce our team of highly qualified instructors:

Briggs Willoughby:

ELM & VP of Speed

WMRRA # 193

When Briggs was a kid, his mom wouldn't let him have motorcycle. If only she had! Look at all the trouble she could have saved! Since getting his first Nighthawk 650 at the age of 21, Briggs has never stopped riding. He started road racing in the local clubs in 1995 and at the national level in 1999. Briggs was the 2001 OMRRA Open Twins champion, as well as having numerous wins and podiums in various classes. He has also competed in AMA and FUSA National races. Briggs has been instructing track days for many years and really enjoys helping people get faster and have more fun riding their bikes. He has many opinions and ideas and is always more than happy to share them with anyone who will listen!

Briggs is also very involved in WMRRA, having sat on the Executive Board for several years and is currently a member of the WMRRA Board of Directors. On the street Briggs and his beautiful new bride Tina, enjoy cruising on a VTX 1800. In his spare time, he is a software engineer at Microsoft. In the off season, he'll be happy to give you a schoolin' on the trails at Tahuya on his WR450, or on XBox Live in MotoGP2 ("Kneepuck").

Brad Gua:

Seattle 100 Racing & WMRRA # 51

Has anybody ever seen Brad without a smile on his face?  He has a lot to smile about: owner of Performance Coatings in Auburn, a family that all rides (wife and son race flattrack), and a WMRRA fast guy too.  Brad was # 2 in 600TFS in 2002 and always near the front in the other 600 classes.  We are also very thankful for Brad, he suffered a bad crash at Portland earlier in the year 2004 and broke his neck.  Thankfully, he walked away and was cleared to race again by the end of the year.  Don't let his playful attitude fool you, he can ride with the best of them and will give students numerous tips and pointers to help them improve their riding.

Ross Delong:

WMRRA # 3

Ross has been riding bikes since the early age of  7 - his first was a Honda.   During the intervening years many interests have come and gone but motorcycles have always been a central part of his life. A highlight of his career was when he was the former head mechanic for Team Kawasaki at Daytona.   His current rides are an '03 Ducati 999s, '05 GSXR 1000, and a 1991 GSXR 1100.  Ross finished # 4 overall in the points for WMRRA in 2004 and won 2 Class Championships: Open GP Twins & Early Heavyweight GP.   His very smooth style speaks of using his head and not just his wrist. It also keeps the tires down and the handlebars up for Ross.  Couple that with his genuine love for the sport and his enthusiasm to help others learn it, Ross helps many students take their riding to the next level.

Stuart Feldt:

WMRRA # 130

Stu was fascinated with motorcycles all his young life, but never bought one because of disapproving parents.  He was threatened with the prospect of financing a college education on his own if he bought a motorcycle during college years.  But after visiting the 1999 Motorcycle Show, he got bitten with the motorcycle bug hard.  That next May he bought his first motorcycle, a 2000 Triumph Sprint ST.  After doing a few track days in 2000, he started racing in 2001 on a 1998 GSXR 600.  Stu has been to 4 Keith Code classes at Laguna Seca and knows his way around a track.

Stuart has been married for 4 years to a wonderful wife who is supportive of his competing in the sport motorcycle racing.  He plans on teaching his son who is 16 months old to ride safely and to respect the potential dangers of motorcycles.  A graduate of Occidental College in 1989, he is now the owner of a residential construction company.

Phil Clarke:

WMRRA # 323

Phil started riding street bikes when he joined the Pacific Northwest VFR club in 1999.  After a several years of riding on the street, he realized the next step in his riding career was to move onto the racetrack.  He came to realize that the track was a safe place to learn the limits of his motorcycle and riding ability.  After his first full year as a club road racer he has been able to take home a number of podium finishes - includeing3rd place overall in OMRRA 600 super sport, 600 super bike, and 750 super sport senior classes.

He has also taken motorcycle riding instruction courses, including graduation from the Freddie Spencer riding school.  Phil has a laid back, have fun attitude that combined with his knowledge of riding fast translates into a very effective instructor.

Scott Avery:

Well known in WMRRA as one of the best people to draft down the straightaway on his SV, Scott is big enough to know that he will never challenge the likes of Rossi, Biaggi, or even Sullivan. But that doesn't stop him from trying! Riding motorcycles for about 10 years and racing for 5, Scott has been to almost every motorcycle school on the West coast. CLASS, Keith Code (4x), and Freddie Spencer (3x) have drilled into Scott's head that learning how to ride well on the track starts with the basics. Having worked a number of private track days as an instructor, Scott hopes to show riders that being smooth on the controls can really improve anyone's riding and racing.

Race Bike: 2003 SV 650, Street bike: 1998 VFR 800, Special: 1994 RC 45

Scott lives outside of Seattle on 2 acres with a great big garage and a very fat cat.

Tom Wertman

WMRRA #  94, AMA #  94, 194

Tom has been a motorcycle nut his whole life, so when he took to racing it was a natural fit for him.  He won the WMRRA 750 SuperBike championship in 2002 and also finished 4th in overall points that year in the club.  In 2003, Tom did a full season in the AMA SuperBike and SuperStock series. His best finishes were 18th in SuperBike at Road Atlanta and Road America, and 15th in SuperStock at Laguna Seca.  All this racing at such high levels means Tom knows what he's talking about.  He is a wealth of information, and very easy to talk to, so be sure to look him up and get some first class riding tips and advice from Tom.

Tom works as machinist at Boeing and also runs Victory Lane Motorsports which offers aftermarket parts to trackday riders and racers.  His wife Brenda also instructs with us and their whole family is into riding.

Brenda Wertman

WMRRA #  60

They say if you can't beat them, join them....and joyfully Brenda has.  After a few years of watching her husband Tom race, Brenda figured it was time to have her try at it.  Jumping onto an SV650, she found she thoroughly enjoyed the sport - not to mention all the attention she got being a girl in a male dominated sport.  She turned in some good performances and got her lap times down to a 1:40 on the SV.   (She can ride boys!)  Brenda always has a warm smile on her face, loves to work with people, and has a great perspective on riding and teaching.

Brenda is currently in dental school working to be a Dentist.  When not studying Dentistry, riding on the track, or enjoying some time with her husband Tom, she is super-mom for her two boys.

Geoffrey Lambert:

WMRRA # 316

Geoff started racing with WMRRA in 1985 on an 82' CB-900F, and in 1986 started racing GSX-R 750's with both WMRRA and OMRRA... which he's been doing ever since.  He has qualified Top 5 or better since 1987 for the Suzuki GNF in the NW region, but quit racing in 1995 for a few years.  In 2003 he returned to racing as WMRRA Chaplain with Team Racers For Christ, also know as Team RFC.  In 2004, Geoff competed in the Suzuki cup after 9 years away and qualified 3rd in the region - in both 750 and Open!  (Who said a prayin' man can't be fast!!!!)

Geoffrey is as friendly as they come, is one of our guest's favorite instructors,  and with his 15+ years of racing is a wealth of information and knowledge.
